On the Footpath

I was doing a bit of work on the computer this afternoon and realised it was blue skies and 50 degrees outside.  We don't see that too often in January, so I found a nearby walk and headed upstairs to change clothes.  As is often the case, by the time I got changed the sky was clouded over with not a peep of blue to be seen.  But it wasn't raining, so I headed out anyway.

Today's walk was a loop on the footpaths from Aldwincle to Wadenhoe and back.  Once again, I make a plea to the US public to adopt the public rights of way system that is used extensively (and responsibly) throughout the UK.  There are various types of paths; some are for use by walkers only, whilst others also permit horses, cyclists, and horse-drawn vehicles.  Footpaths (walkers only) total over 91,000 miles, while total paths total about 117,000 miles.  "It's a beautiful thing."

Starting off in Aldwincle.  Ironic that the "Concealed Entrance" sign is concealed.  I'm thinking placement of the sign on this side of the stone wall would have been a better choice.

Leaving Aldwincle along the Nene Way, a 110 mile long-distance footpath.

Came upon this sundial as I was entering Wadenhoe

St Michael and All Angels Church in Wadenhoe, dating from the 13th century

It wouldn't be a footpath if it didn't pass by a pub - The King's Head in Wadenhoe.  It looked like a great pub, but I didn't have time to stop (needed to get back to Aldwincle before dark).  Perhaps another day.

In Wadenhoe

On an unrelated note, I've updated the Reading List page.  I've added a few comments for each of the books along with a personalised rating system.  And yes, I know what they say about opinions and I'm certainly not offended if you don't agree with mine.  I've done this mostly for myself; a means of keeping a record of what I've read and enjoyed.  Please feel free to share your thoughts or recommend a book.

looks like a nice walk. it was nice here today too. i'm going to rush home and cook chicken on the grill before it gets too dark.
that sun dial looks really cool. did it have the right time?

Well, the sun was behind lots and lots of clouds - so there were no shadows. I might head back to the village one day to go to their pub; if so, I'll go check out the sundial (if it's sunny out!).

I do like this new set-up, everything is one click away!!

Yes, I would love these walking paths you have in Engand, but I'm afraid their would be trash all over! When I go to the Y in the morning their is new trash everyday, just don't understand people, especially when their is a trash can 7 yards away!

Great pictures, must have been a great walk!
